4. Prepare an oral report about the tale to be presented in the tutorial sessions (from september 12th to 19th), you just will have 2 minutes and it is expected you to say 40 sentences at least.

Trial for murder

This tale is about a man, he works in a bank and he has a usual life. But one day he reads a story in newspaper about a murder, weird something happens, so he goes until the window and there, he looks down in the street to two men, the first man looks nervous and mysterious. The second man seems a ghost.
After that, he feels bad. However, something more occurs. He is in his bedroom, when suddenly appears the second man with ghostly appearance, the banker look at him, then the man disappear. The banker is really frightened.
The next morning he receives a letter which says that he must be jury in a murder trial. So he goes there. He finds that the prisoner who he will judge is the first man that he saw in the window.
The prisoner looks angry because in the jury is him. Spend five days. During this time the murdered man visits the jurors. He scares them. The fifth day, a police shows a picture of the dead man. So from the public appears a man that whispers:” I was younger then and I still had blood in my body”. But nobody neither sees nor hears him, except the banker. he always sees him, but he isn't sure.
The ghost stays in the courtroom for frighten all witnesses. For this reason they change their stories. Later the court decides that the prisoner is guilty. Finally the ghost goes pleased from there. On the other hand the murderer says to the court that he knows his life was over when he looks the banker. Because a man came at the night and woke him, and raises him up and puts a rope around his neck. The prisoner says that this man was the banker....
I like it. It is a terror story with suspense; I think that it is well told. Perhaps the end is not as impressive but in general the tale is good and enveloping. Also I like the tales of Charles Dickens. They are fantastic.

ReplyDelete“This story took place in a quiet part of London in 1920. The storyteller lived in the same house all his life.”
One man was walking in his garden when found a strange letter with a brown ink in front of him. He looked up all around of him, but he didn’t see anybody, so he decided to read the letter. The letter said something like:
“If you find this letter, please help me, I am locked in a room at the top of the white house. Don’t ask for me at the front door – she will kill me. Please climb to my window over the roofs. I can’t see any other window from my window. Please come and help me.”
The man wasn’t young and his days of adventure were over. He had a bad leg and walked with a stick, but when he was younger, he climbed over the roofs of that house, a beautiful girl waited for him. Her name was Valeria, they loved each other, but she had an older sister and was very jealous. She made the girl married with another man, the he did the same. These old sister still lived there. Her name was Miss Rowsley and she lived alone. Everyone thought she was mad. His son came later, and he showed him the letter. His son asked if it was a joke, he answered that could be probably but, he couldn’t wait to climb this roof, finally they decided to do what the letter said.
They waited until it was dark; then they climbed in the Miss Rowsley’s kitchen, the man heard every move that he made, then they came to the roof, they heard one window open and heard voices softly. His son came back to looked for something that could cut the metallic bar of the window, when they cut the first bar, saw a light that came of the darkness, was Miss Rowsley. She had a candle in one hand and one long knife in the other. She was to kill her, the man saw her face and thought Valeria, and she was still young and beautiful.
It’s a long story, so, the final is, Miss Rowsley died, and the girl was Valeria’s daughter, the girl after being saved, sold her aunt’s house and moved to Italy, the she married with an Italian artist, and the ink that has the letter was her blood. The man decided to conserve the letter.

DeleteMy tale is "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe and it is about a young man lives in a room in an old man's house. He loves the old man because he's kind with him, but there's something weird, the old man has one light blue eye! And when the old man looks at the young man he feels frightened, suddenly an idea appears inside the young man's mind, kill the old man! And in this way don't see again that horrible eye, so he decides to make a plan. Every night he enters to the old man's room quietly with a lantern, but he needs to see the eye open for kill him. But one of those nights the old man feels a weird noise in his bedroom (is the young man, but he's very careful) he's so afraid about that and he feels the evil in his bedroom. When young man turns on his lantern, he could see the horrible eye and he starts to feel angry, he only sees the eye, he hears the bang bang bang, it's the beating of the old man's heart. This is the time! He thinks, the old man screams only once, he kills the old man, he pulls him to the floor and pushes down the bed on top of him. Now the young man's heart is happy. As he's dead, the young man sees the body, and feels that his heart isn't beating. He thinks about his eye, he feels good now. The young man puts everything back in its place. At four o'clock all finish. And suddenly he hears someone in the street door, and he opens, are three policemen! They are there because a neighbor hears in the last night strange noises. But he says them that the strange noise is because he has a nightmare and he screams last night. He shows them all the house, even the old man's money, he gives them a chair, and everybody starts to speak, and the policemen are very happy with the story... but suddenly a weird noise is in the room, and he doesn’t know what to do, he's afraid. The policeman couldn't hear it. Finally he is as frightened as he decides to tell the policeman that he's guilty.
I like this tale because it is unpredictable and has drama, and its main idea can be related to human consciousness.

There was a woman named Mrs. Mothersole, she was a great woman and she had a pretty strong reputation also she was a witch, the people were afraid, so the witch hunt was very present. She was hanged by the neck because a man called Sir. Matthew that lived in Castringham hall, a place very important and very enormous that also it had lots gardens, he said to court that she was acting in a very strange way. According to him, whenever the moon was full, she always climbed the ash tree, also she had a knife and she talked to herself. He saw a dog running around the garden where the tree.
He did not want to kill the woman but could not explain why she acted like that.
She died along with six more criminals, before he died he told Sir Ma would have invited but he did not know what he meant and said nothing.
Days later he was with Mr. Crome, a friend, they were walking in the garden, when Mr. Crome went to go, Sir Matthew saw a dog running around but Mr. crome was not sure. That night Sir Matthew died when Mr. Crome knew he had died, he wrote a letter explaining what happened, what he had done with Bible for help.
50 years later the Sir. Matthew’s son, Sir Richard became Castringham Hall, he liked to build, he wanted to build a church, but when he was in the place he could not because he found the graves of the witch and criminals but when they looked was not one of bodies.
One night he felt noise and cold air, the morning asked to be moved but the first room that he looked does not like because it was small so he stayed in the dad’s room but the Housekeeper did not want to because in that room had died Sir Matthew, but to Sir Richard did not matter that, at that moment he saw the ash tree in the garden.
At that moment a gentleman arrived, Mr. Crome, he was the friend of Sir Richard’s father, and he just came to show him the letters, father’s death and the Bible, Sir. Richard laughed and said he hoped it was not real.
The next day the guests arrived, they were walking in the garden and talked about the ash tree and the room, Sir Richard just said that it was sometimes annoying noise of the branches, but those branches did not reach the window, that a guest had said, that night of moon full he died of the same way as his father died, the guests saw a white cat then this cad had fallen into a hole, the housekeeper was to look with a lantern what there was inside the ash tree but when he looked he scared and lantern dropped into the ash tree and fell into the garden.
Suddenly there was smoke and tree, then there were spiders, this happened six times, finally inside the tree had dead spiders, human bodies and the body of a woman (witch), she died 50 years ago.
I liked this story; I found it interesting the part of bible, also the suspense surrounding the whole story, a good horror story.

The young man doesn’t move and says anything. The old man is afraid and his heart is beating hard. He doesn’t see anything but he feels it. After a long time the young lights the eye and now it’s open and he becomes to feel sick and angry. The old man’s beating is growing louder. The young jumps near the old man, who screams, then pulls him to the floor and pulls the bed on top of him and pushes down the bed. The heart is beating slowly until it stops. Now he is dead.
The young man pulls up part of the floor and puts the body under the floor and puts it back in its place. Then someone knocks at the street door, he goes to opens it and three policemen come in, they say a neighbor heard a scream during the night and they would like to look around the house.
The young let them to come in and tells he is who screamed for a bad dream. He invites them to sit and makes some tea.
Then the young begins to get a headache, while the policemen are talking and laughing. He starts to hear a banging noise and it makes him mad. The policemen don’t hear the noise and he thinks they are laughing at his terror.
The young man screams that he did it and pulls up the floor showing them the corpse with his ‘horrible heart beating’.

Every night, he goes to old man's room and he sees him and he plans to murder. On the eighth night, the young man goes to kill the old man but he makes a little noise and the greybeard wakes.
The teenager kills him and he pulls up part of the floor and puts the body under the floor.
The next day, three policemen go to the old man's house. The young man says them that the greybeard is away in the country. He provides tea to the policemen.
Then he hears a banging noise and a beating noise but the policemen don’t hear it. He thinks that the policemen are playing with him and that they can hear the noise.
Finally he despairs and says the truth. He kills the old man because he hates his eye.
I like this story because is a different tale. It has a particular plot. The author is an excellent writer. I like many narrations of him like this tale. I hope you read this story because despite being so short is so exciting.

He does not pay attention to it and performed a meeting in the house, but before, the grandson of a friend of his grandfather visited him and talk with him about happened to his grandfather, but do not pay much importance .The next day the guests arrived, they were walking in the garden and talked about the ash tree and the room. Sir Richard just said that sometimes there were annoying noise of the branches, but those branches did not reach the window. A guest said that night of moon full he died of the same way as his grandfather.
The next morning the employees were to see the ash tree, and discovered the tree was on fire and from it hanged out the witch's corpse.
The story was interesting because the end is surprising when the employees discover the secret hiding tree.

THE TRIAL FOR MURDER (PRESENT)
ReplyDeleteThis story is tell by someone who read it in his morning newspaper. When he read this story he fels so scared because he can see the photograph of the crime scene in the newspaper. The man who lives in London go to the window to take fresh air after he fell so scared with the notice; and when he look down at the street he can see some person which are walking in the street and suddenly one of them start to fight with the other man.
He think that one of them wants to hit the other, in the street there are other people but they don’t care for it, suddenly the men look at the man in the window and he can catch them faces clearly(one of them has a bloodless face). It was for the people something that gives to speak about the murder that appear in the news, but the man who told this story was scared and he don’t continue reading the news.
In the night the man who told the story see in his bathroom’s door at the scariest man with his bloodless face and he feels so scared. He receives a letter the next day of the facts calling him to the court, because he is sit like jury in a murder trial.
In the court, waiting him with the other juries when suddenly two policemen brings the prisoner to the trial of murder and he recognize immediately one of the men who walk in the street, but is not just the only thing that happens there because the prisoner didn’t want at the man like a jury and he can’t explain it.
It’s an fantastic story because speaks about the justice and how the juries can be not just juries but they can be victims, in the story the man speaks about the security for juries; but not all were sure because the prisoner next to juries in them minds. During the trial the policeman showed a picture that he got in the jail of the prisoner and something is nearest to the jury but nobody can see at the man who speak him (he is the death man) and nearest to a woman who spoke at the prisoner when suddenly a doctor speak about suicide and immediately the ghost come to the doctor.
The juries decide what is the judge for the prisoner but all the juries are accord about the guiltiness of the prisoner; when the juries came back to the court room the ghost was stood closely at the jury and he was covered by the blanket, and the jury stand up and called guilty at the prisoner and suddenly the ghost disappear and the blanket was empty. But is not all because the prisoner point to the jury and finally he was killed by the prisoner.

He thought that one of them wanted to hit the other, in the street there was other people but they didn’t care for it, suddenly the men looked at the man in the window and he could catched her faces clearly(one of them had a bloodless face). It was for the people something that gaved to speak about the murder that appeared in the news, but the man who told this story was scared and he didn’t continue reading the news.
In the night the man who told the story saw in his bathroom’s door at the scariest man with his bloodless face and he felt so scared. He received a letter the next day of the facts, called him to the court, because he had been sit like jury in a murder trial.
In the court, waiting him with the other juries when suddenly two policemen brought the prisoner to the trial of murder and he recognized immediately one of the men who walked in the street, but is not just the only thing that happens there because the prisoner didn’t want at the man like a jury and he couldn’t to explain it.
It’s an fantastic story because spoke about the justice and how the juries couldn’t be not just juries but they could be victims, in the story the man spoke about the security for juries; but not all were sure because the prisoner was next to juries in them minds. During the trial the policeman showed a picture that he went in the jail of the prisoner and something is nearest to the jury but nobody could see at the man who spoke him (he was the death man) and nearest to a woman who spoke at the prisoner when suddenly a doctor spoke about suicide and immediately the ghost came to the doctor.
The juries was deciding what is the judge for the prisoner but all the juries were accord about the guiltiness of the prisoner; when the juries came back to the court room the ghost was stood closely at the jury and he was covered by the blanket, and the jury stood up and called guilty at the prisoner and suddenly the ghost disappeared and the blanket was empty. But is not all because the prisoner pointed to the jury and finally he was killed by the prisoner.

The work of the girl is stay in Madam Crowl’s bedroom old the time, and watch her and bring her food and drink when she asks for it. The second night, after the dinner the girl is on her bedroom and she hears a weird sound from Madam Crowl's bedroom, but her aunt tell her that everything is ok, but she feel curiosity and goes to Madam Crowl’s bedroom, as the door is open she looks inside, and she see a large bed with curtains all around it, the bedroom is illuminated by a lot of candles and have a big mirror.
The girl walks towards the bed and opens the curtains and observes Madam Crowl, and suddenly she opens her eyes and gets up from the bed and looks at the girl and raises his hand toward she, and Madam Crowl screams “Why did you say I killed the boy?” The young girl screams and runs out of the room. A few days later Mrs. Wyvern tells the story of Madam Crowl to the girl, she tells her that:
“Madam Crowl married with Mr. Crowl but he had a boy from his first wife, one day the boy went to the lake alone, but he never came back, they only found his hat floated in the lake, then they had other son, the boy grew up and became the new Mr. Squire and the present Squire is Madam Crowl's grandson”
Six months later Madam Crowl gets sick and dies, they cannot leave the house until Mr. Squire returns home and pay them. The girl moves to a different bedroom, and one night she is on her bed and sees a shadow, she gets up and sees Madam Crowl's ghost she has a gold key on his hand, the Madam Crowl's ghost opens a door in the wall and disappears. When Mr. Squire arrives the girl tells him the story of the ghost and they go to the room and open the door, they find another door and they open easily, they see like a pile of bones but Mr. Squire doesn't say anything, and he pays the salary to the girl , and she returns home. Some years later her aunt tells her the rest of the story, that the bones belongs to the first son, Madam Crowl shut him in a cupboard to die.
I liked the story because it was interesting to discover the reason why the old woman looked crazy and shouting strange things, and a little scared when I read the end.

The letter says: please help me. I am a girl locked in a room in the top of the white house, but you have to climb the window. If you ask for me at the door, then she will kill me. Please release me. The old man has a bad leg and he uses a stick to walk. But he used to climb the roofs of all houses when he was eighteen years old. At that time, he met a beautiful girl named Valeria, but she has a very jealous sister named Miss Rowsley, who made Valeria marry other man and the old man married other woman. Miss Rowsley lived in that white house all her life. So, the old man waits for his son, John. John reads the letter and starts to climb to the window of the white house to release the little girl, who wrote the letter. But there are bars blocking the window. John gets something to cut the bars. He starts to cut the bars when Miss Rowsley gets in the room and starts to yell thinking the girl was going to marry John. When William hears the yells, he forgets his leg's problem and climbs the house and when Miss Rowsley tries to kill the little girl with a knife, John and his father capture Miss Rowsley. John was going to call the police but the old woman asks for excuses. The girl's name is Sophia. She is Valeria's daughter and she is exactly like his mother. When William sees her, He thinks she is Valeria. But her parents died. So, Miss Rowsley asks Sophia to live with her, but when Sophia arrives, Miss Rowsley locked her. Miss Rowsley died when she tried to escape jumping through the window. Sophia went to Italy to study and married an artist. The letter was written with Sophia's blood.

I think this is a very good tale, even when it's too short, it has a lot of emotions. The fact that the girl wrote a letter with her own blood is kind of disturbing. But in general, I think this story is really scary.
The Brazilian Cat (Present Simple)
ReplyDeleteThe story talks about Marshall King, a young man from a high-class family who spends a lot of money but he doesn’t have a job. For this reason he owes much money at many places. His father doesn’t give money to Marshall because he thinks his brother is going to leave all his money to his nephew Marshall.
However, Marshall’s father dies young and Marshall ends without a job, without money and with a lot of dues.
Marshall has a cousin called Everard King. Everard is a wealthy man because he had made too much money in Brazil.
One day Marshall receives an invitation from his cousin Everard to attend to his country house called Greylands. As Marshall owes much money he decides to accept the invitation because he thinks his cousin can help him with his dues. He is afraid because the court can send him to the jail if he doesn’t pay his bills.
He arrives to Greylands and there he meets to Everard King and her wife. Everard treats to Marshall very kindly but her wife does not. Marshall stays six days at Greylands and in these days he meets all the exotic animals of his cousin, including a beautiful black cat brought from Brazil which is locked in a cage at a room in Everard’s house. The sixth day, before to comes back to England in a stormy night Marshall and Everard go to visit the beautiful black cat.
Suddenly, Everard leaves Marshall in the cat’s room and locks the door with Marshall inside. Then Everard opens the cage from outside and in that way he sets free to the panther. Marshall is terrified and he knows he is in a very dangerous situation. For that reason, he thinks in how escape from there, but in that place there isn’t any way to gout from there. Marshall has an idea. He climbs up to the top of the cage to avoid the attacks from the panther, which is very excited. After a couple of hours he thinks about close the cage to definitely avoid the close death.
He gets close the cage but in the last moment the black cat gets bite to Marshall in the Leg and he fall down to the floor bleeding a lot.
Marshall wakes up the next day by the noises made by the door and the Everard’s voice calling him. Marshall doesn’t answer his call and decides to stand still. As Marshall doesn’t answer, Everard calls to his black cat, but the panther attacks him until to kill him.
After Everard’s death, Marshall recovers energy because he is very sick. When h e is able to talk, he has a conversation with his lawyer and from that conversation he realizes about his uncle’s death and his testament. Curiously the next person in line after him to get his uncle’s money is Everard King
